Now that we had a sound understanding of the operational side of things, it was time to start putting our personal touches on her – first and foremost her name! It is very important however, to perform the proper ritual to purge the boat of her former name before we place her new name on the stern. There are plenty of sites online that are more than happy to share this ritual lol! We spoke the sacred words, tossed the ingot into the sea, poured champagne to Poseidon then finished it off with a toast! Purging ceremony complete.
We still needed to perform the necessary ritual for “renaming” a yacht as well. A few days later, we met a wonderful couple traveling on a Kady Krogen named “Sweet Ride”. and invited them to join us for docktails and our renaming ceremony later that evening. After stories and cocktails, we each took turns pouring champagne to the gods of the north, south, east and west requesting they watch over us and grant us safe passage wherever we may go. It was a wonderful evening and a great start to new friendships and adventures aboard Queen Mary! They also introduced us to “boat cards”. – business cards for cruisers. A great way to share contact information so that you may keep in touch with people you meet along the way. What a great idea! Thank you Christopher and Alexandra for the lovely evening and I look forward to our paths crossing again!
